Subject: Update on Electronic Device Policy in the Classroom

Dear Parents,

We are writing to inform you of an important update to our school’s policy regarding the use of electronic devices in the classroom.

Following new provincial guidelines to create a more focused learning environment, FrancoSud School Board has implemented new measures to limit distractions and enhance student concentration.

Effective September 1, 2024, the use of all electronic devices (cell phones, smartwatches, tablets, etc.) will be strictly prohibited in the classroom for all students, from Kindergarten to Grade 12, unless explicitly authorized by the teacher for pedagogical or medical reasons.  Students will be allowed to use their devices during the lunch hour.

If a student is found violating the rule for the first time, the device will be confiscated and returned only at the end of the day. If the student repeats the offence, the device will be confiscated, and a parent will need to come to the school to retrieve it. The device will not be returned to the student.

This decision is part of our commitment to providing an optimal learning environment for all students. We believe that this measure will improve the quality of teaching and learning.

We thank you for your understanding and cooperation. Your support is essential to the success of this initiative.
